So I've had a very long weekend in Brooklyn. First there was NYE at Shea Stadium, which was probably one of funnest nights of my life while simultaneously being the absolute shittiest. For some reason, I'm not particularly fond of large masses of hipsters. Anyway, Terror Pigeon Dance Revolt was the best dance party of 2010 or 2009? and the "Dead Virgins" made my entire life better, mainly because I couldn't attend their very exclusive 21+ NYE party. Boo. Blastoids were rad and Several Colors, or something along those lines, were very strange, dark, and sarcastic, yet very interesting and appealing. And as I left this wonderful party in the middle-of-no-where-land, Blissed Out played a set on the roof that really made Meadow Street quite an eerie place to be at 7:30 AM. And of course, there were pancakes. In the video clip you can hear the Blissed Out noise and the deejay playing that "New York" jam and of course, the Blastoids bus is camped outside.
Anyway, on Saturday I found myself at Death By Audio drooling and sneezing on myself in a dark corner while listening to wonderful and magical jamz of Many Mansions. I really love Many Mansions. I didn't so much before, or at least when I saw them at Hill Stock. I thought they had a cool sound going, but I definitely wasn't as into it as I am now. So this band opened the night called Mattress or Quilt or Quilt the Mattress or vice versa. They played one song and I hated it, but then they went on playing more songs and all and it started to grow on me. Definitely check out Mattress Quilt or Quilted Mattress. Fun jamz. And then last but not least, there was Truman Peyote, a lot different than I've ever seen them. They played some of their new jamz from their upcoming split with label buddies, Many Mansions, to be released on WhiteHaus Family Records! Get it! Being a music director at a college radio station supplies me with endless free amazing jamz, but I'm definitely going to dish out the bucks for what will probably be one of my favorite 2010 releases. Anyway Truman Peyote were missing the little dude, but they still kicked ass and I would still place them in my favorite live bands, evah. If you haven't seen them, goooooooo now. AND BUY THAT SPLIT!
